Plausible alternatives for analytics you can own
Counterscale is the reviewed Cloudflare option for a simple traffic dashboard. Plausible CE and Umami have different server requirements, while Cloudflare Web Analytics is a managed option. Choose the reporting workflow before choosing the hosting bill.

Choose an alternative by the job it replaces
A small publisher may need only pages, referrers and audience totals. A product team may depend on conversions, revenue, shared reports or years of historical data. Write down the three reports that change a decision each week. Use those reports as the acceptance criteria for a replacement; a similar-looking dashboard is not proof that the underlying measurements match.
| Option | Hosting model | Useful starting point | What to investigate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Counterscale | Your Cloudflare Worker, Analytics Engine and R2 | Basic website traffic and a dashboard you operate | Retention, sampling, access control and required reports |
| Cloudflare Web Analytics | Managed Cloudflare service available on all plans | Site performance and traffic without operating an app | Its metrics and filters against your reporting checklist |
| Plausible CE | Your server; official Compose uses PostgreSQL and ClickHouse | Keeping the Plausible family of tools while operating infrastructure | CE feature differences and the full server budget |
| Umami | Node.js server plus PostgreSQL | Evaluating another self-hosted analytics stack | Database operations and the reports you need |
Only Counterscale is the source-reviewed Cloudflare catalog recommendation in this guide. The other entries are editorial options with linked official requirements. They are not newly imported projects or verified free Workers installations.
When Counterscale is a good fit
Start with Counterscale when owning a small traffic-reporting application is useful and you can maintain it. Its project page includes the original README, MIT license, an official public-demo screenshot and configuration evidence. The screenshot shows the upstream application; it is not evidence of a deployment in your account.
Our assessment covers basic website analytics. We have not established replacement parity for Plausible's advanced analysis or integrations. If those reports drive your business, inspect the Counterscale comparison before committing to a switch. Keeping a managed service can be a reasonable operating decision even when another tool has a lower infrastructure bill.
Separate source ownership from free hosting
The Cloudflare setup guide identifies the actual resources and a pilot checklist. Account-level quotas, daily traffic peaks and dashboard queries matter more than a monthly visitor headline. Someone must also handle access, credentials, upgrades and recovery.
For a budget comparison, start with Plausible pricing. A paid subscription covers operating work that a repository download moves to you. Estimate both infrastructure and maintenance, then evaluate a short pilot against your saved reporting checklist before replacing the tracker on every site.
Common questions
What is a self-hosted Plausible alternative on Cloudflare?
Counterscale collects website traffic and serves a dashboard from a Worker, using Analytics Engine and optional long-term R2 storage. Its MIT source and configuration are reviewed; a new deployment and complete Plausible parity have not been tested.
Can Plausible Community Edition run for free on Workers?
The reviewed official Compose setup uses the Plausible application, PostgreSQL and ClickHouse. That is a server stack, not a native Workers Free deployment.
Is Counterscale free?
Its MIT source is free to use with the license notice retained. Hosting can fit a small-workload Cloudflare allowance, but requests, CPU, storage and operation limits still apply.
