Formspree alternatives for forms you can own

FormZero is a reviewed open-source option for accepting submissions and reading them in your own dashboard on Cloudflare. Evaluate it for that narrower workflow before replacing Formspree's notifications and integrations. FormHive has known local failures; managed alternatives remain useful when operating a backend is not your goal.

Four alternatives, with different operating responsibilities

Option Ownership and hosting Workflow to evaluate Important limitation
FormZero MIT; your Workers and D1 resources HTML/JSON submissions, dashboard and CSV export Spam defenses and notification delivery need evaluation; no fresh installation was tested
FormHive MIT; your Workers, D1 and KV resources Submission API, dashboard and webhook code Recorded local setup, honeypot and deletion-ownership failures must be resolved
Forminit Managed service, formerly Getform.io Existing forms connected to a hosted backend Separate vendor terms and limits; not a reviewed free Cloudflare repository
Basin Managed form backend and builder Hosted submissions and form tooling Separate vendor terms and limits; not a reviewed free Cloudflare repository

Our first source-reviewed Cloudflare candidate is FormZero when you want to own submission storage and can maintain the application. That is a starting point for a pilot, not a readiness certification. Forminit and Basin are included for readers comparing managed backends; we have not tested their accounts or established pricing parity.

Start with the job your form must do

A contact form has more responsibilities than returning a successful HTTP response. Identify the fields you collect, the dashboard access you need, how someone learns about a submission and what happens when bots discover the endpoint. Include attachments, redirects, duplicate submissions and exports in that inventory.

The FormZero project page shows the original README, real upstream dashboard image, MIT license and reviewed infrastructure. Its submission route accepts HTML form data and JSON, writes records to D1 and has an optional SMTP path. A recorded submission is not proof that an email arrived. The README's proposed Resend integration and spam defenses should not be treated as delivered capabilities merely because they appear in the feature list.

Treat known failures as part of the comparison

FormHive's project entry records a local test with synthetic data. The dashboard displayed submissions, but first-time setup returned an authentication error, a filled honeypot was accepted, and deletion lacked account ownership enforcement. The screenshot demonstrates the interface; it does not make that snapshot suitable for real customer data. Resolve and retest those findings before considering a production deployment.

Free code, free hosting and a free managed plan are separate

Formspree still offers a Free plan with an account-wide monthly submission allowance. If that plan meets your needs, self-hosting may add work without removing a subscription bill. Our Formspree pricing guide explains billing periods, shared allowances and feature gates.

For your own Worker, request counts, CPU, D1 row operations and storage determine eligibility. The repository's application-level lack of a submission cap does not remove Cloudflare limits. Use FormZero vs Formspree to compare the workflow, then follow the Cloudflare pilot guide before changing a live site's form action.

Common questions

Is there a free self-hosted Formspree alternative on Cloudflare?

FormZero has MIT source and a Workers/D1 deployment configuration. A small workload may fit Cloudflare Free quotas. This is source-reviewed eligibility, not a tested zero-cost deployment or complete Formspree replacement.

Can FormZero send email notifications?

The README lists Resend notifications as coming soon, but the pinned runtime contains an optional SMTP notification path. Provider configuration, credential handling and actual delivery need testing before relying on it.

Is Getform still called Getform?

Its current official website redirects to Forminit, which identifies itself as formerly Getform.io. This guide uses the current name; existing catalog mappings retain their original Getform label.

Sources and review

Recommendations are Cloudsteading’s editorial assessment. Repository review establishes documented capabilities; it does not prove a fresh deployment or complete feature parity. Prices and platform limits can change.
