UptimeRobot alternatives for uptime checks you can own
UptimeFlare is our reviewed Cloudflare option for availability checks and a status page. Other open-source tools need different infrastructure. Choose the checks and alert delivery you need before assuming that a free repository means free, reliable monitoring.

Compare four real monitoring options
| Option | Hosting and license | Useful starting point | Main tradeoff |
|---|---|---|---|
| UptimeFlare | Apache-2.0; Workers, Pages and D1, with optional regional Durable Object checks | Configured HTTP/HTTPS/TCP checks and a status page | You own configuration, upgrades, notification delivery and quota checks |
| Uptime Scarecrow | MIT; documented Workers Paid prerequisite | HTTP checks, heartbeat ingest and queued notifications | Paid account baseline plus usage; Access and notification setup required |
| Uptime Kuma | MIT; documented Docker or Node.js server installation | A self-hosted monitoring interface with many check types | Server, persistent storage and updates are your responsibility |
| Gatus | Apache-2.0; documented container/service deployment | Configuration-driven checks with response conditions | Operate the service and choose appropriate persistent storage |
The first two entries are reviewed catalog projects. Kuma and Gatus are editorial server-based options, not imported or verified Workers Free deployments. The UptimeFlare project page preserves its README, license, real upstream screenshot and deployment evidence so you can inspect the recommendation.
Decide what a successful replacement must detect
List the failures that matter: an unavailable homepage, a wrong API response, a closed TCP port, an expired certificate or a background job that stops reporting. HTTP availability alone does not cover that list. UptimeFlare documents configurable HTTP methods, headers, status codes and keyword checks, plus TCP monitoring. Its pinned README still lists certificate checking as a TODO; do not assume SSL-expiry alerting is implemented.
Choose a detection and notification target as well. A one-minute schedule is a configured check cadence, not a one-minute delivery guarantee. Timeouts, grace periods, retries and the notification provider change when someone hears about an incident. Use UptimeFlare vs UptimeRobot to evaluate the operational differences.
Check whether the managed free plan already fits
UptimeRobot's current Free plan advertises 50 monitors at five-minute intervals and a basic status page. Its Free-plan help article says business and commercial use are allowed; avoid older claims that Free is restricted to personal projects. More advanced checks and team access still require evaluating paid plans.
If these basic checks meet your needs, moving to self-hosting solely to avoid a subscription may add operating work without removing a bill. Our UptimeRobot pricing guide separates billing periods, monitor tiers and source conflicts.
Pilot ownership before moving every monitor
Use the Cloudflare setup guide for the reviewed infrastructure and a failure-test checklist. Start with one non-critical endpoint and a real alert destination. Keep existing monitoring during the pilot, compare what each reports, and document who checks that the monitoring system itself is healthy. Shared-provider failures also matter: a Cloudflare-hosted monitor is one observation point, so consider an independent check when your application also depends on Cloudflare.
Common questions
Is there a free UptimeRobot alternative on Cloudflare?
UptimeFlare is source-reviewed as free-tier eligible for a small workload within Workers, D1 and SQLite Durable Object limits. No fresh installation or guaranteed zero-cost capacity was measured.
Can Uptime Kuma run on Workers Free as-is?
Its official installation documents Docker or a Node.js server with persistent storage. That does not establish a native Workers Free deployment.
